How can I volunteer as a business mentor?

Apply through the mentor application on the New Hampshire Business Mentors Become a Mentor page. A person on the nhbm team reviews every application and follows up by email about the next steps. Once accepted, volunteers are matched with business owners whose challenges fit their experience and meet them on virtual calls.

What experience do I need to volunteer as a business mentor?

Volunteer business mentors have owned, run or held a senior role in a business, of any size and in any industry, and they listen first. Good mentoring starts with understanding the business owner's situation before offering advice. Comfort with virtual calls helps, since most New Hampshire Business Mentors sessions happen by video.

How much time does volunteer business mentoring take?

Volunteer time at New Hampshire Business Mentors depends on how many business owners a mentor takes on. Mentors set their availability with the nhbm team and can pause when needed. Each session is a virtual call, and afterward the mentor logs a short note. That note is the only regular paperwork.

Do I need to live in the Seacoast area to volunteer as a mentor?

A local connection helps, though most sessions are virtual. New Hampshire Business Mentors serves entrepreneurs, small business owners and nonprofits across the Seacoast area, from southern Maine, across New Hampshire and into northern Massachusetts. A volunteer who knows that business community can mentor from anywhere with a video connection.

Is there any cost to volunteer as a mentor?

No. Mentoring is free for business owners and free to volunteer. New Hampshire Business Mentors charges neither mentors nor the owners they help, and mentors are not paid. Volunteers give time and experience, and the nhbm team handles matching, introductions and scheduling with them.
